Caffeine machinations

I've been trying to give up coffee for the past three weeks. I know I've said this before (and I think I managed to last a whole 8 days caffeine free before I rolled back onto the path of the evil bean), but this time I really want to kick the habit. A big part of it is that I really hate the fact that I'm getting caffeine addicted (baaaaad sign), and the other part is that to be honest, now I'm no longer enjoying my coffee. It's something I drink to get rid of the headache, and I judge each coffee by the quantity of caffeine it injects into my system rather than the actual quality of taste. It's crappy.

So, in my daily round of blog-channel surfing, I came across a link to an alternative to the Advil method I tried before (it almost worked). This other method works by substitution rather than cold turkey: replace with caffeinated tea (which I haven't drunk for years) then gradually move to the decaff equivalent. Hey, it might work. I tried originally by just drinking herbal tea but it wasn't enough and so far, this newer method is doing ok. I don't have the grumpy moodswings and headaches as badly as I did last time (I'd also like to point out that I don't have the Advil either - I haven't found the German equivalent yet) but I am drinking less coffee. Comparatively. And I'm sad enough to even graph my coffee consumption ... yep. This should be a warning to the perils of drinking copious amounts of caffeinated beverages, kid: coffee and coke are the drinks of choice for programmers, after all.

So before I forget: apologies to all and sundry - if I'm grumpy, it's the caffeine. Really ;)
