So over the past few days, I've actually decided to sit down and work out exactly how many hours I will actually be travelling in some sort form or another. In the map below is the default route (in yellow) that I'm most probably going to take (I say 'default route' because when you start travelling, there's so many opportunities - why stick to a gameplan that you made 2 months ago, based on what you read in a book?).
I went through and spreadsheeted (yes, I know, nerdy) as many of the hours between places as I knew - there are a couple that I have to work out still (Cusco --> La Paz, El Calafate --> Rio Gallegos, Buenos Aires --> Foz de Iguacu - haven't even worked out which way I'm going to go!). But even discounting those legs, the total travel time came to 170+ hours, or the equivalent of 7 days straight of travel.
If anyone has any good suggestions for books or ways to pass the time, feel free to pass them on. I just may need them. And a pillow.
