Ratios

I haven't written for a while. I'd almost apologise, but it's my blog and therefore I'm more than entitled to post whenever I want. So there.

Unlike previous periods when I haven't posted, this time it's because I'm entirely too busy. Which after so many months of a sort of abstract lethargy is quite a shock to the system. It's like having food coma everyday - and I'm missing my Nana-nap no end.

Work has been good - bit of a frustrating start. Like anywhere though: the process of getting to the point where all the Little Things work as they should, and you can get on with the Big and Interesting Things. Finally got there this week and it's been good. Finally feel that my supervisor/employer and I are on the same page (I was still buying the book the first couple of weeks).

I've also been going out more - I vaguely have recollections of having a life, years ago. It's been nice to go and hangout with friends. Being back near my uni has made it a lot easier too for the reason that I'm not the only one who hasn't moved on yet.

The process of moving on, funnily enough, is why I'm writing this post in the first place. After so many months of wondering if I'll be able to make it to Somewhere Else, I've finally got a deadline and am trying to get myself there as quickly as I can. Which is actually proving more difficult that I thought it would be. I didn't think I'd find it so difficult to say goodbye and let go - of all the little things as well as the big ones. I actually had a bit of a wet-eyed week a while ago - every happy time followed by the early pang of missing it pre-emptively. Or it could have been a bad curry. Who knows.

I'm now in the continued and never-ending process of stream-lining, a.k.a. throwing out a whole heap of junk. I'm a terrible hoarder. Fact. But I'm finding it difficult to be impartial, to judge everything on terms of the ratio of "is it replaceable, and if so, is the ratio of what it cost to buy to size worth taking it over or putting it into storage ..."

Ah, I may be an engineer, but I was never happy with ratios.
